Release of Java HDF5 Products Version 2.2
Release of HDF5-1.4.2
HDF5-1.4.2 is now available for download. You can obtain the HDF5-1.4.2
software from the HDF5 home page:

Documentation is included in the source code and can also be found from:

This is a fully tested release. To see the configuration features
supported with HDF5 look at:

New Features and Changes
Important changes in HDF5 include:
- File sizes greater than 2GB are now supported on Linux systems with kernel version 2.4.x and higher.
- Fortran 90 is now supported for Windows (static library), HP-UX 10.20 and 11.00 and the IBM SP platforms.
- In order to support Fortran 90 on Windows, additional parameters were added to the h5dread_f and h5dwrite_f subroutines.
- An H5 <-> GIF converter has been added to the utilities.
- Support has been added for Solaris 2.8 with the -64 bit option, for Linux in parallel mode, and for the Metrowerks Code Warrior compiler on Windows.
- Numerous bugs have been fixed and performance improvements added for both parallel and serial HDF5.

Release of Java HDF5 Products Version 2.2
The latest version of the Java HDF5 Products, Version 2.2, which has been updated to work with HDF5-1.4.2 is available from:

The H5View tool contains several new features, in addition to fixes to major bugs reported in version 2.1. New features in H5View include:
- View a generic dataset as an image using a default palette.
- Display image data in a spreadsheet.
- View 24-bit image of pixel or plane interlace.
- Show a line plot of row/column data in spreadsheet.
- Show a histogram of pixel values of image.
- Select the default palettes from Gray Scale, Rainbow, Nature and Wave.
- Save the whole or subset of an HDF5 image as a JPEG image.
- Save the whole or subset of a dataset to a text file with tab, space, comma or colon delimiter.
- User preferences to set:
- Web browser path.
- H4toH5 tool path.
- H5View users guide URL.
- The default palette to use if a dataset does not have a palette.
- The delimiter character when save spreadsheet data into text file.
- A list of most recent files to the file menu.
- Can add or change values of an attribute that is a one-dimensional array.
This release was tested with JDK 1.2.x. It should work with JDK1.3.1, but this has not been extensively tested.
This product contains the Xerces 1.4.1 from Apache (http://www.apache.org)
NOTE: The pre-built binaries for Windows platforms were linked with a pre-release version of HDF5-1.4.2. This will be updated soon.

Dropping Support for Solaris 2.6
HDF5-1.4.2 is the last release of HDF5 that supports Solaris 2.6.
